The Clyde Best Foundation was created in October 2012 so that generations to come are reminded of Clyde’s roll in history for British and Bermuda football. It is Clyde’s mission to support a grass roots football academy in Bermuda and to provide a means for young players to further their education. As a personal wish of Clyde, the Foundation will also support cancer awareness and treatment.

The Sells Goalkeeping Academy (”SGA”) is a “grass roots” program specifically for goalkeepers. The Bermuda Academy has franchised with the Sells Goalkeeping Academy in the UK. The partnership will expose players to camps and resources in the UK. You can visit the Academy’s website at www.sellsgoalkeepingacademy.co.uk.

The objectives of the Foundation are to provide an educational platform, safe environment and financial assistance for players and coaches of the SGA Bermuda to attend weekly sessions and camps, locally and abroad. The Foundation will also look to raise funds for cancer awareness and to assist patients with their treatment expenses.

Short Term Goals:

  • Update and maintain a training facility for SGABermuda;
  • Sponsor SGA Goalkeepers attending local and overseas camps;
  • Start the planning and preparation for the first Clyde Best Golf Tournament for Cancer awareness; and
  • Award scholarships to successful applicants for continuous education.

Long Term Goals:

  • Annually award scholarshipsto successful applicants for continuous education;
  • Host the Annual Clyde Best Golf Tournament for Cancer awareness – to include ex and current professional football players and coaches. The Foundation will aspire to coordinate efforts with FIFA;
  • Create a Football Hall of Fame to honor Bermuda’s greatest footballers and to document Bermuda’s football history;
  • Develop a multiplex facility for sports tourism and for local clubs to use at VERY minimal costs. Honor Clyde Best by calling it the “Clyde Best Multiplex”. We will also honor other great footballers by naming fields and meeting rooms after them (i.e. Goater Room or Astwood Field); and
  • Develop a full time Football Academy in Bermuda that includes education and football as a full time curriculum.

Donations
The Foundation appreciates any form of assistance. This can be by way of finance, one-off or regular gifts, assistance with the construction of the Multiplex, and/or assistance with hosting events. Also,the Foundation hopes to benefit from sponsored fund raising activities by supporters including charity events, camps and other charitable activities. Any amount that you can give, no matter how small or given in what way, makes a difference.
